ANDROID DEVELOPER

Responsibilities
Every member of the Technology team is responsible for:
• The availability, security, scalability of our e-commerce platform
• Delivering our product roadmap
• Planning for the future
As an Android Engineer you and your team will own the Android Apps that are used to place millions of orders on mobile devices each year as well as specifically responsible for:
• Planning the future technical direction of the app as well as how the integrate with the rest of the consumer apps
• Creating a world class support system for the app with our in-house logging/crash reporting/monitoring tools and internal frameworks
• Releasing new versions to the store and supporting those changes all the way through to operating successfully in customers’ hands
• Managing the source control approach and branching strategy
• Coming up with awesome ideas to implement in the app !

If you are a Senior Engineer, we also expect that you

• Will become a trusted technical authority and specialist in one or more technical areas of your team. You’ll be someone the rest of the team and your Technical Manager can turn to for engineering advice and guidance.
• Collaborate with other teams and use their feedback as a basis for improvements.
• Write technically sound, clean, maintainable code – with practical application of established patterns and practices.

You must have experience of:

• Core Android components such as Activities, Fragments, Services, Broadcast Receivers etc.
• Extending the base UI components provided by the Android framework.
• Integrating UI components with the SQLite DB
• Integrating with server-side APIs and web services
• Working with frameworks that simplify long running operations
• Building apps optimised for both small and large screen devices
• Launching and supporting non-trivial apps in the Google Play Store

You’ll have an advantage if you have experience of:

• Working within an e-commerce business where reliability is critical
• UX design and usability testing
• Mobile payment methods
• Unit/Integration testing (Robolectric/Robotium)
• Mechanoid, Square Otto, Square Dagger and ActionBarSherlock libraries
• Annotation processing
