Below randomly selected four days of our daily work at GEMIUS HQ are described.

Tuesday of Paweł – Today Paweł has 10 new tickets:

- Set MX and SPF records for the domain www.moosefs.org
- Prepare a virtual machine for www.coretechnology.pl
- Repair not working mail aliases (this ticket is re-opened).
- Install MySQL database for the GDE project (GDE is our internal name).
- Assign an IP address pool for the servers in our test infrastructure, and configure appropriate VLANs for it.
- There is an issue with XEN’s virtual machine which runs Hudson for developers – it is swapping, so Paweł has to allocate more RAM for this machine.
- Install and configure our software (HitCollector) for a new customer in Turkey, which gave us ssh access to the bare-metal FreeBSD machines. This task is very delicate for two reasons: first – it is for our customer, and second – because of SWE developing HitCollector who is a genius and hacker coding in POSIX C only and this SWE does not tolerate wrong configurations of his soft – only perfect installation is acceptable.

The remaining 3 tickets need to wait until tomorrow. As the work day comes to an end – sorry! That’s life.

Wednesday of Kuba – Today Kuba is on call and he answers calls from all our employees and he also handles tasks related to monitoring of our production systems:

- He came to work at 11 o’clock (Though he planned to be at 10, as Kuba is very ambitious).
- After arrival, the first thing that he did was making a cup of tea, because Kuba does not drink coffee. (nobody is perfect)
— Suddenly, receptionist came to admin’s room and said: “Mail does not work!” – so Kuba checked monitoring and responded with a smile “it works for me :)”. Then he double checked logs from mail server and confirmed that there was a small LAG in email system, however all e-mails should flow smoothly.
- In the spare time between phones and monitoring alerts Kuba is working on improvement of our puppet’s scripts.

Thursday of Adam – Adam continues the job he has started 3 days ago on Monday.Adam is installing a new instance of MooseFS and than he is going to test how MooseFS cooperates with the Open Stack – This task requires digging the Internet for information about Open Stack. Adam is going to perform a set of tests for several configurations, before he will present the results.

Friday of Tomek:
- Tom came to work on time as usually.
- He started the day with some shopping – 7 new servers for our infrastructure.
- When the rest of the team had lunch, someone came to the room and informed Tomek that “Wi-Fi does not work” so he decided to diagnose the problem – and fix it.
- After lunch, Tomek goes for 2-hour training on “MooseFS for admins”.
- Today is Friday so he will go to our Data Center and replace 8 damaged hard disks for new ones. It is quite common task as we have about 2000 HDDs in our PetaByte Storage.
